For the second year Carre Gallery presents an exhibition with the broad theme of Lincolnshire community and life.  This year has again attracted exhibits in a variety of media and styles depicting a broad slice of this popular theme.  This includes textiles, oils, acrylic, pencil, linocut, watercolour and photography.  Subjects range from light-hearted to serious with images of people relaxing, working and surviving.

Gallery Director Christopher Hodgson says, “It’s a pleasure to see a wide range of interpretations of ‘Lincolnshire Community and Life’ and we are extremely grateful to McKinnells for supporting this locally-themed event.”

Seaside (acrylic on canvas) by Martin Page

Martin Page’s ‘Seaside’ is a quirky study of summer activities at the Lincolnshire coast.  Martin explains, ‘the painting has elements of Mablethorpe and Skegness.”  A casual viewing will give the essence of the subject but closer inspection reveals a host of individuals enjoying different activities – building sandcastles, flying kites surfing and snorkeling.  Any fan of the VW camper van will notice two distinct models of the classic traveller.  Says Martin, “I researched them in some depth to ensure the details were correct.”

Passing the Time in Sleaford (watercolour) by Robin Hall

Robin Hall’s ‘Passing Time in Sleaford’ is a beautifully observed study of a group of senior gentlemen relaxing on a bench, while Frank Emonds shows a slice of village life with photographs of a local village fete.

This is just a small taster of the artwork on display.  Come along to see for yourself and vote for your favourite piece in our ‘People’s Choice’ ballot.
