Portrait Competition

October 6, 2014

Lincolnshire Community and Life Portrait Exhibition sponsored by Chattertons Solicitors

Our first Portrait competition attracted a high number of entries resulting in a gallery packed with over 80 exhibits. Our hanging team, led by the indefatigable Robin Hall and Mary Newman had the unenviable task of displaying the work and they have done a champion job. Our first visitor on a rainy Autumn Monday perused the exhibition for some time and told us he was ‘very impressed’, a conclusion which was echoed by following visitors. And it is little wonder; this exhibition is a fantastic selection of interpretations from a very talented mix of Lincolnshire Artists.

Candlesby_9110_450The competition will be judged by a representative from our sponsors, Chattertons Solicitors, with the prize-winner being announced at the private view on Thursday 09 October. All exhibiting artists are invited to attend with their friends.

Visitors to the exhibition are invited to choose their favourite picture (not an easy task) for the ‘Peoples’ Choice’ Award, which is becoming a regular feature of Carre Gallery exhibitions. So come along, enjoy the exhibition and have your say.

Peter by Jennifer Cottis was judged the Winning Image by our judge who described it as “a skilful, beautifully composed depiction of a character which engages with the viewer. You feel you know something of the man, but he has an enigmatic expression and you would like to know what he is thinking.”  You can see more of Jennifer’s art on her website jacottis.com (opens new page).

Greek fisherman by Mona Storey:  “A compelling study that conveys a world-weariness in the character; you can imagine the hard life of a fisherman. It is full of detail – I see something different every time I look at it.”

Jesse by Mona Storey: “This has an old-fashioned, almost nostalgic style about it which captures the innocence of the child; a lovely picture.”
