Purple Sundown by Kim Hodges; Kemple End, Clitheroe by Denise Hawthorne; Warm afternoon in Deia by Caroline Hedley.

An exhibition to celebrate the work of the Art in the Chapel, a group in Welton who meet weekly and work under the guidance of Denise Hawthorne.

Art in the Chapel

Denise taught Art and Design in the county for 30 years but has only really developed her own personal work since she retired a couple of years ago. Her studio is an old Methodist Chapel which stands in her garden in Welton, North Lincolnshire and from here she paints and runs two adult classes per week.

Art by members of ‘Art in the Chapel’

Some of the members of the group are relatively new, others have considerable experience; but all who chose to submit work for this exhibition have been included.  All the work is new and some of the themes developed over the year can be identified: Mood and Atmosphere in the Landscape (acrylic) and Harvest (mixed media) are two in particular.  The end of the year will be celebrated by a painting holiday in France for a small group which will hopefully re-charge the batteries for the Autumn.

Exhibitors are:  Denise Hawthorne, Caroline Hedley, Kim Hodges, Lyn Fairhead, Valerie Wallis, Heather Heath, Pam Hennell, Norman Clarke, Mary Baker, Dorothy Calder, Anne Paterson, Anne Walkley, Sally Hutchinson, Phyllis Field and Fiona Duncan.

Anyone wishing to know more about this group or to visit the studio is welcome to contact Denise on 01673 860099 or e-mail den.crataegus@virgin.net

The exhibition runs until 14 July 2012.
