An Exhibition by Harriott Brand and Alison Salter

IMG_5078Following visits to Boston’s Guildhall Alison and Harriott were inspired by the building’s architecture and  social history and also by the archaeological dig that had taken place in the market square in 2010. These visits led to a collaborative art project that has spanned 4 years of research, experimenting, and responding to the artefacts exhibited in the Guildhall building and to the town of Medieval Boston.

Each subject led from one to another, from past to present, and took them on a trail exploring trade, feasting, footwear, flora and fauna, landscape, medicine, astronomy, immigration and agriculture. They found themselves in a labyrinth contemplating medieval history and the connections of common themes and problems of today.

Bear_Wanted_550First shown in 2017 for 3 months at the Guildhall, Boston as Medieval~Made Modern, the exhibition transferred for 6 months to Gainsborough Old Hall.

2018 Amazing Menageries, also incorporated here, was a follow-on exhibition at Gainsborough Old Hall last year for 6 months. The works reflected on animals in medieval society in the form of banners and other loaned and commissioned artworks.

Re-titled There and Now – 800 years we are showing both exhibitions of works together at the Carre Gallery, Sleaford.

Subject matter includes wildlife, floral and botanical, landscape and still life. Exhibitors have employed a variety of media which includes acrylic, oil paint, pastels, watercolour and ink, and photography.  There are also mounted, unframed images and cards for sale.

KarenBrown_Squirrel_550The Spring Show, currently open in the Carre Gallery is a mix of styles and media from the bold bright colours of Laura Davies’ peacock, fine detailed animal studies of Karen Brown to Mike Weston’s delicate watercolours.

Subject matter includes wildlife, floral and botanical, landscape, portrait, town and cityscapes, and still life. Exhibitors have employed a variety of media which includes acrylic, oil paint, pastels, watercolour and ink, watercolour, and gouache. All in all there are 41 paintings as well as cards for sale.

Winter Art Fair 2018

ADolan_BookCovers_550The art fair has a range of media including acrylics, oils, watercolours and textiles. As well as framed paintings, there are unframed paintings and prints, gifts, cards, tree decorations, and books.

All the exhibits in our Christmas Fair are, as usual, priced under £100 so there is something for all pockets.

 

 

Gallery Opening: 10am – 4pm Monday to Saturday until 05  January 2019.

Christmas Closing: The Gallery will be closed from 23 December to 01 January inclusive.

Three local artists in different disciplines have joined together to create an interesting exhibition for Carre Gallery.

Brett Barker creates ‘upcycled’ metal work. Using spanners, tools, even sports equipment, he creates a mixture of artworks from animals to table lamps.

Dianne Pyper is a photographer and designer. As well as photography she is displaying her painted glassware, jewellery and light-up bottles.

Sally Faulkner, no stranger to the gallery, is exhibiting her landscape and fine art photography. Some of her images are very local, including images of Sleaford. Sally also has a selection of greetings cards for sale.
